Nyes and Neighbors Walking Tour of North Falmouth
September 19, 2025 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
For centuries, each Falmouth village has been a world unto itself, developing its own distinct character and a fierce sense of neighborhood pride. Venture with us into the quaint village of North Falmouth, dominated by the numerous Nye family from 1699 until the mid-20th century.
We’ll take in the Congregational Church and its cemetery, then walk along Old Main Road, appreciating the beauty of its historic homes and sharing stories of their inhabitants. We’ll meet patriarch Benjamin Nye (1673-1750), tragic whaling captain John Galen Nye (1831-1880), shopkeeper Ferdinand Nye (1816-1894), the steadfast Elizabeth Fearing Nye (1812-1895), and many more, along with their in-laws, friends, and visitors — a diverse group that includes Senator Daniel Webster. From the days of traditional sheep farming to Prohibition and beyond, Nyes have put their mark on North Falmouth.
