History Talks Lecture Series: David Wheelock

As a seafaring community, Cape Cod is known for its whaling, fishing, and shipbuilding history. However, when one thinks of East Sandwich, shipbuilding may not always come to mind. The Nye Museum has done extensive research into the dock and shipyard that was once located at Scorton Harbor. Dave Wheelock, local archaeologist and historian, will speak on his own historic replica shipbuilding. Wheelock brings a unique perspective as the caretaker for the Wing Fort House and for his many years of preservation work and carpentry at the Nye Homestead and other historic properties.

Wheelock has worked for multiple museums and universities from the West Coast to the East. He has completed field archaeology from California to Virginia to New England. His interest in the Nye Museum started over 30 years ago through his association with Rosanna Cullity. Dave has also served as caretaker of the Wing Fort House for the past 33 years.
